Description
I started on this two years ago, and it's FINALLY DONE!
Materials: FIMO polymer clay & acrylic paint. Coated with varnish. Steel wire inside wings, body and tail.
Tools: Hands, paintbrush handle, toothpicks, sandpaper.
Every single little scale on its body was made by rolling a tiny ball of clay and pressing it against the sculpture. Every. Single. One.
More pictures of the sculpture, showing details and scale:
Work in progress:
References used:
[1] Drawing by Snaphance93. I was asked to use this as a reference for the anatomy.
[2] Drawing by Lykkepillen. I was asked to use this as a reference for the colours. (I was told I didn't have to paint the wings exactly like that, I could also use photos of nebulas as references.)
[3] Drawing by Lykkepillen. I was asked to use this as a reference for the head, but with some small changes (i.e. light blue instead of orange, no beads in hair (only in beard), more fluffy hair).
